eeewwwww

So my friend Brianne has been trying to spread the gospel of U2 (whom I have always disliked). She made a great mix of U2 songs that don't sound like U2, which almost had me convinced. Then, today, I saw this:

Remember when I was talking about how you have to separate musicians' personalities from their music? It's getting harder and harder these days.

Hahaha. I believe that's from a few years ago (although they also met for lunch today). For the record, their politics are very ... not similar. But if by meeting with Dubya a few times I could help convince him to pledge a ton of money to help fight AIDS in Africa (which Bono has done), I'd probably do it too. Just sayin'. ;-)

Yeah, that isn't a photo op for Bono, though it defintiely is for the scrub. I mean, if you are in a position to speak to a world leader (albeit a moron) you should do it. As Brianne said, he did it to help get debt relief and and other aid for African countries. I have no bad blood for Bono, even if he does wear those silly glasses.

You can seperate SOME musicians from their politics, but U2 made a point of making that difficult.

Very true. I have always found it distressing that almost all my favorite musicians are ignorant liberals who know nothing about economics and foreign policy and yet find it necessary to burden us with their ill informed opinions. I've always chalked it up to a "left brain/right brain" problem. Oh well.
